THE 48TH CLUB WEEKEND
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL RACERS FOR PARTICIPATING

Club Weekend is always interesting, but this year we added a touch of suspense. We weren’t real sure that we would race at all. At 7 am Pico was socked in with fog.  At 7:30 am Pico made the decision that we could race if they move the race course over to the center of the slope, at 8 am the weather cleared, at 9:30 am the fog came in again in time for the race and the group picture on the deck. None-the-less, we had over 40 gutsy racers give it their all through the fog and ruts Finally at noon (after the race was finished and we were on the deck having lunch), of course, the weather cleared again. .Most of us spent the afternoon in the heated pool or watching the 2 UConn basketball games.

The Summit Lodge provided us with tasty appetizers, great food and an inviting atmosphere for our awards dinner.  Sharp Shooters set-up a area to view our group and some individual pictures. People still wishing to purchase pictures can go on-line and order them.

Race winners were awarded Olympic style medals to show off.  In addition New Haven Ski Club pins were awarded for first-time club day racers: Of course, we have to have some goofy awards.  Joe Pasquariello was given a New Haven Ski Club Racing Team tee shirt for most improvement, John Paul for the most desirable racing bib, and Don Juan Currie for material too risqué to print. We ended the evening with free give-aways of ski bags, lift ticket, gift baskets, wines, Grist Mill passes, and more.

Most of us made our way to the Grist Mill for dancing and silliness. Quiet Derek Green of the British Invasion group shocked the crowd by performing James Brown splits on the dance floor.  WHO KNEW?

Thanks to everyone for coming and a special thanks for the help and cooperation of the planners and volunteers.  Events like this couldn’t be run without help from members like you.   Hope to see you all next year.
