Membership Requirements/Committees

 

Meeting Place/Membership Requirements. The New Haven Ski Club, Inc. meets every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at the Harugari Club, 66 Highland Street (top of hill), West Haven, CT. Membership is open to individuals 21 years and older. For more information call (203) 931-6229.

New Haven Ski Club, Inc., Committees. New Haven Ski Club activities are organized by many dedicated volunteers on a variety of committees. The members of these committees work hard to ensure successful, well-organized events throughout the year. The committees offer new and old members an opportunity to plan activities that interest them most and to form friendships with other members. Please consider taking an active role in one of the following committees:

Activities Committee This committee is responsible for all events that take place other than on regular meetings nights. Activities include: camping, hiking, bike trips, tennis league, canoeing, Connecticut River Raft Race, golf outings, gold league, baseball games, and other events.
Bus Trips

 

Day and weekend bus trips are offered as an economical way to ski. Trip destinations have included: Mt. Snow, Stratton, Killington, Okemo, Sugarbush, Sugarloaf, Stowe, Sunday River, Mt. Tremblant and Mt. St. Anne. ASIA instructors may accompany the trip and offer help to new or beginning skiers.
Constitution and By-Laws This committee is responsible for conducting any business regarding examining and revising the NHSC constitution.
Lodge Committee Lodge committee members investigate various lodges and make recommendations for a suitable winter lodge for the club. It considers and recommends financing methods, collecting fees, pays the cost of operation, and keeps appropriate financial records. The committee develops the rules and regulations for operation of the lodge, promotes its use among members, manages reservations, purchases necessary supplies, and oversees the opening and closing of the lodge. In addition, this committee appoints weekend managers to oversee the running of the lodge on any given weekend.
Open House The NHSC Ski and Snowboard Show (Open House) is the largest event of the year and is the primary means of attracting new members. The committee is responsible for the organization and coordination of this event, including recruiting ski areas and ski shops, renting the hall, hiring the entertainment, coordinating publicity, arranging the fashion show, and soliciting donations for the extensive raffle.
Snowflake Manual The Snowflake Manual is published annually and distributed to all members. The committee sells advertising to support the manual's publication, edits its contents, coordinates production and arranges distribution to the Club membership.
Snowflake Newsletter The Snowflake Newsletter is published monthly and keeps members informed of the club's many activities. Articles are contributed by chairpersons, event coordinators, and members at large.
Membership The head of the membership committee promotes membership drives, welcomes new members, maintains records relative to applications for membership, and collects dues. Please remember to supply address or phone number changes to a membership person so the mailing list can be updated.
Program Committee This committee conducts all events sponsored during or in place of regular meetings. Events such as Ice Cream Nights, Country Line Dancing, Chili Contest, Swing Dancing, Bowling, Pizza Night, International Dinner, Ski and Bike Turning, Champagne Parties, Wine & Beer Tasting, Halloween, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day Parties, and 50/50 raffles.
Social Committee The chairperson of this committee oversee the coordination and organization of all social events which take place outside regular club meetings. These events include: Holiday Party, Spring Banquet, and Club Day Banquet.
Race Team The captains of the race team are responsible for organizing NHSC's race team for the Connecticut Ski Council's Monday night series, On-Snow Carnival, Championship Races, and our own Club Day Race. In addition, this committee offers members the opportunity to increase their skiing knowledge and ability through the use of clinics and by encouraging team members to participate in various races sponsored through NHSC, and outside organizations.
Winter Trip The previous year's President becomes chairperson of this committee. Her or she takes suggestions and chooses the site for the annual week-long trip to Europe, Canada, or the West. All travel arrangements are coordinated for club members and their guests.
