An annual New Haven Ski Club weekend event is a trip to Tuckerman's Raveine on Mount Washington, New Hampshire. The ravine is a glacial cirque cared during hte last ice age. It's amphitheater-like form is a catch basin for the windblown sonows of the Presidential Range. Famous for its spring skiing, the area is reached by climbing 3.1 miles up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to the mouth of the ravine. (There are no ski lifts in Tuckerman's!) The ski areas consist of the Headwall, right and left gullies, and the floor of the bowl. The lip stretches across the top of the Headwall and has two routes over it. The Tuckerman's Bowl is awared to member who ski over the lip without a fall after climbing the Headwall under their own power.
